Kiwitea as a place physically, consists of the school, a hall, a well supported play group (the old Post Office) and an Anglican Church.

Organisations and sporting groups operating in the area include a Pony Club, Plunket Branch and the Playgroup. A number of other clubs and organisations are centred at either Cheltenham or Kimbolton, both ten minutes away.

The area has traditionally been a stable sheep farming area, but with a number of recent dairy conversions. Diversification has seen deer, goats and dry stock being farmed along with the growing of crops.

A small number of families either work for farmers in the area, own small blocks or rent accommodation and work elsewhere.

Generally by N.Z. standards it could be considered to be a reasonably affluent area. It could also be considered to be a reasonably conservative, “middle of the road” area.
